The clamping unit of an injection molding machine operates under repeated high forces and high-speed movements. Proper adjustment, regular use, and routine maintenance are essential to extending the service life of the machine. Maintenance of the clamping unit mainly includes lubrication of moving parts, care of the mounting surfaces on the moving and fixed platens, and inspection of fasteners.
The moving platen travels at high speed, so it is critical to ensure proper lubrication of the guide rods and tie bars. For toggle-type clamping units, all pivot joints must remain well-lubricated during operation to prevent seizing or mechanical damage.
Important: When production is stopped, do not leave the mold closed and clamped for a long period. Doing so may cause the toggle joints to run dry of lubricant, making it extremely difficult to reopen the mold.
Both the moving and fixed platens are machined to high precision and surface finish. Maintaining these surfaces is essential for ensuring the machine performs reliably. When no mold is mounted, apply a thin layer of oil to the mounting surfaces to prevent oxidation and rust.
Before mounting a mold, always check that the mold’s mounting surface is clean and smooth. This ensures proper clamping performance and prevents damage to the platen surfaces. Never use molds with rough, hard, or poorly finished mounting surfaces, as they can damage the platens.
Regularly check that the screws used to secure the mold are compatible with the screw holes on the moving and fixed platens, as shown in the video. Do not use screws with stripped threads or incorrect sizes. Using damaged or mismatched screws can strip or damage the threaded holes in the platens.
Always use clean, undamaged fasteners of the correct specification to ensure safe and reliable mold clamping.
