The hopper dryer is an essential piece of equipment for injection molding machines. It removes moisture from plastic pellets, ensuring stable material quality during the injection process. However, hopper dryers can experience various problems during operation. Below are several common faults and their solutions.
Possible causes: Power failure, blown fuse, damaged control panel wiring, etc.
Solutions:
Check the power supply and fuses.
Inspect the emergency stop switch.
Verify whether the thermal overload relay has tripped.
Possible causes: Incorrect temperature setting, control system failure, etc.
Solutions:
Confirm the temperature setpoint.
Check whether the thermocouple is making good contact.
Inspect the heating elements for partial burnout.
Possible causes: Unstable equipment installation, worn mechanical parts.
Solutions:
Check whether the dryer base is securely mounted.
Inspect the fan impeller for looseness.
Examine the fan bearings for wear.
Adjust or replace worn components as needed.
Solution: Clean out the blockage from the discharge chute and the air duct.
Routine Maintenance
Cleaning: Dust and dirt accumulate inside the dryer over time, reducing heat dissipation and operating efficiency. Regularly clean the heater, fan, container, interior and exterior of the drying chamber, and the control cabinet.
Lubrication: Insufficient or contaminated lubricant accelerates wear of mechanical parts. Periodically check and replace the lubricating oil to maintain proper lubrication and cooling of moving parts.
Electrical connections: Inspect and tighten all electrical wiring terminals.
